The introduction of the DR-Z400E changed the face of off-roading a short four years ago. Now 2004 is here and the DR-Z400E continues to set the standard for high performance off-road riding. The well balanced performance of the compact four-stroke powerplant, the supremely stable and lightweight chassis and the high performance suspension create the perfect blend of performance and handling for the DR-Z400E.
New for '04 Suzuki now offers a California version of the popular DR-Z400E so everyone can enjoy the fun and excitement of Suzuki's high performance 400cc off-road machine.
Powered by a 398cc, DOHC, four-stroke liquid-cooled engine with dry sump lubrication, the DR-Z400 have the performance and power to handle any kind of off-road situation. Built with performance in mind the DRZ400E also features a four-valve cylinder head, Keihin FCR39 carburetor with a throttle position sensor (except CA model), five-speed transmission, auto-decompression system, forged piston and lightweight nickel-silicon-phosphorus-carbide-plated cylinder. The DR-Z400E also comes with a small maintenance free battery and all the necessary components.
The compact four-stroke engine makes it home in a chromoly steel frame with a detachable aluminum subframe patterned after Suzuki RM motocross models. Designed with maximum torsional strength and lightweight, the frame also holds oil for the dry-sump lubrication system in the main backbone and front downtube sections of the frame. Long travel 49mm front forks have an internal cartridge system with adjustable compression and rebound damping, while a fully adjustable RM style rear shock handles rear suspension duties with high and low speed compression damping in conjunction with a lightweight aluminum swingarm. Wide RM style footpegs come standard and lightweight aluminum wheels and hubs are equipped with disc brakes front and rear.
Champion yellow bodywork along with RM inspired graphics adorn the '04 DR-Z400E and when combined with white headlight cover and side panels allow for quick and easy movements on and around the motorcycle. The left side frame cover features quick release fasteners for easy air-filter maintenance and rounding out the package are a mechanical trip meter, 55 watts of off-road lighting and a LED taillight mounted on a flexible base.
